Architectural Concept
The building was designed in a Lower Silesian post-German village, which features the characteristic architectural tradition of this region. While strolling through the village, one can notice old brick buildings covered with ceramic tiles, whose facades are complemented by dark brown wooden cladding and wooden gates. The main idea behind the design was to blend into the local architecture and preserve the distinctive architectural details typical for the region.
During the inventory process, we already knew that the building had great potential. We decided to preserve its original character while referencing the local village architecture. The building was visually divided into two parts. One part was built during the time when Germans still lived in the area, while the other part was constructed after the war. In the post-German, brick section, we found a vaulted brick ceiling over the ground floor rooms, as well as small, characteristic arched windows that once served to illuminate the animal stalls. Even during the inventory process, we knew we wanted to preserve them. The goal of the project was to renovate and change the building’s function from a former cowshed to two tourist apartments. One apartment was designed on the ground floor, the other on the upper floor. Each apartment has its own independent terrace. We decided to open the apartments to the surrounding greenery by designing large glazing in the living areas. To emphasize the original appearance of the building, the ground floor facade was designed with brick, while the upper floor was clad in dark brown vertical wooden planks.
